Sarah Crane O'Neill, PLLC
For all kinds of reasons along the path of adulthood, we can face questions and fears about whether we are lovable or valuable, “good” or great in some way, or even good enough. Counseling with me is a way to gently look at how these questions, fears, or beliefs came to be. Perhaps they developed from feeling criticized or lonely in previous stages of our life, as a form of self-protection from being hurt or let down, or a habit of self comparison in our individualistic and competitive culture, among other possibilities.
Self-doubt and self-criticism are often very loud voices in our minds and hearts. In counseling, we can explore how self-doubt/self-criticism is one story or defense mechanism, not necessarily the truth. Through building our own rapport and trust in the counseling relationship, I hope to help you find and develop a calm, compassionate center in you, that ultimately does believe you are capable and worthy. I believe you’ve had this center all along, but it may have gotten quieted by “voices” like self-criticism. Finding and building this “center” place takes time and involves building trust… maybe most importantly, trust in yourself.
I have an approach rooted in humility and humanness. We are all complex beings who all struggle. I draw from my clinical experience with a wide range of people and life experiences, and my training in psychodynamic theories, attachment theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals, and mindfulness.
